Hong Kong has one of the largest film industries in the world. In 2002, 92 Hong Kong films were screened locally, generating US$45 million in receipts, while foreign films generated US$66 million. In March 2003, Hong Kong had 2,831 motion picture and other entertainment services-related establishments. According to a Hong Kong Trade Development Council Report, Hong Kong's film industry is characterized by short production schedules, opportunistic use of locations and the following of distinctive Hong Kong genres. Film stars of the current genre, which is associated with martial arts and action, include Jackie Chan and Jet Li. In general, themes of Hong Kong films are narrower in range, and often actors are the key marketing tool of the local movies. More recently, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has enjoyed unprecedented commercial success and has been nominated for the Oscars. However, this is not entirely an exclusive Hong Kong production although it draws on a variety of Hong Kong talents.
